Quassia
2025
Acrylic on Fabriano
57 x 77 cm
This painting is in part a continuation of my biopiracy series, but also an interpretive and stylistic exploration. The plant Quassia, long extracted and traded for its medicinal properties, becomes a parallel for digital extraction where AI generates mutated models beside the clean, authored forms I sculpt. In reworking these into paint, the piece probes the moral and ethical questions of what’s taken, who shapes it, and how meaning shifts in the act of transfer.
